JAKE HUGHES
In 2013 Jake will be contesting the BRDC Formula 4 Series with Lanan Racing. The journey to Jake realising his dreams to become a professional racing driver has been a relatively steep learning curve as he did not begin racing karts until 15.
Since 2009, under the guidance of Andy Cox at ACR racing, Jake has proven that he has a natural flair and ability for racing, already having secured several titles.
During 2010 in his first season of kart racing he competed in the Easykart Junior category finishing in 9th place overall and was voted BEST ROOKIE, also taking 2nd place for E-Plate and qualifying for the Easykart World Finals in Italy.
The 2011 season saw Jake again offered a seat with ACR to challenge for the inaugural Formula Kart Grand Prix (KGP) category in the Super 1 series; this was his first taste of senior karting and against a large experienced field of 30 drivers he finished the season in a remarkable 5th place, again earning the title of BEST ROOKIE and the opportunity of a test drive with Marussia Virgin’s Formula Renault Team (Manor Competition) in Barcelona which gave Jake his first taste of wings and slicks.
During the same year he achieved pole position and his first race win in the Easykart Senior Championship, being nominated ‘driver of the day’ by Karting Magazine.
In 2012 prior to switching to cars full time, Jake again contested the Easykart championship, being crowned E plate Champion and finishing 2nd overall in the senior light category, in the same season he also finished in 3rd place in the Kartmasters KGP Category and 4th overall in the season with 5 podiums along the way in the Super 1 British Championship, he rounded off the season with the KGP World Championships.
Jake then made the switch to cars, testing in both BARC and Formula Renault cars. Jake entered the final round of the British Formula Renault Championship, and further rounds of the Formula Renault Winter Championship, in which he finished in the points in all races.
Jake has already successfully completed a series of test days in the new Formula 4 car and is showing great promise to be a serious championship contender.
